The Westermarck Society
The Westermarck Society was founded in 1940 for the preservation of the work and memory of Edward Westermarck and for the advancement of sociology in Finland.
The Society arranges regularly the Annual Sociological Conference (Sosiologipäivät) and the Edward Westermarck Memorial Lecture. It organises seminars for sociologists and people interested in sociology. It publishes the quarterly Sosiologia (in Finnish, with English abstracts).
The Westermarck Society is a member of the Nordic Sociological Association (NSA), the European Sociological Association (ESA), and the International Sociological Association (ISA). Representatives in international associations are Elina Oinas (ISA, vice president), Pertti Alasuutari (ESA), Janne Autto and Lena Näre (NSA).
The president of the Society is professor Ilpo Helén (University of Eastern Finland) and vice president is Juha Koskela (University of Lapland). Board members: Sanna Aaltonen, Ilkka Arminen, Timo Aho, Anuhya Bobba, Jarmo Kallunki, Anu Katainen, Mikko Lagerspetz, Marianna Lehtisaari/Anni Hartikka.

Members get a printed copy of Sosiologia and are entitled to a discount on the conference fee of the Annual Sociological Conference of the Society. Members in categories 3-6 get an access to the online Acta Sociologica.
